In The Mouth of Madness is rightfully considered one of John Carpenters best films. Inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft (and a little Stephen King), the 1994 supernatural thriller stars Sam Neill as an insurance investigator who is slowly yet surely driven mad through the power of a novel penned by an enigmatic and insane writer known as Sutter Cane.
Now, more than 30 years after the films premiere, fans of Carpenter and Cane alike can experience the mind-melting horror of In The Mouth of Madness for themselves when the novel goes on sale this October. By the way, did I ever tell you that my favorite color was blue?
Image: Echo On PublicationsOn Thursday, Echo On Publications announced that Carpenters film would receive an official novelization, written by none other than Sutter Cane himself! “In the Mouth of Madness is not just a book,” said Echo On Editor in Chief Christian Francis in a statement. “Its an experience… a mix of sanity and delusion. Its Cane at his most unhinged: darker, hungrier, and far more dangerous than anything hes written before. And while were proud to publish it, we must warn people to read with caution, and report any altered perception to a medical professional.”
An imprint of Arcane Publishing that focuses on reimagining cult-favorite horror films in literary form as well as publishing original horror stories, Echo On recently published its first book: a novelization of Brad Andersons psychological horror thriller Session 9 written by Christian Francis. In The Mouth of Madness will presumably be written by Francis under the nom de plume of Sutter Cane, as the latter is both fictitious and (presumably) dead in Carpenters film.
In The Mouth of Madness will be available to purchase on Oct. 31.
